Hot Air Balloon Marrakech Price 2026: What You Actually Pay

The short answer

A shared sunrise hot air balloon flight in Marrakech booked directly with an operator costs roughly 1,400 to 1,800 Dhs per person in 2026 (about €140 to €180). Our own Classic Flight is from 1,700 Dhs per person, down from 2,100 Dhs. A private balloon starts at 5,000 Dhs per person, and a VIP flight with breakfast served in the basket starts at 6,000 Dhs per person.

Those are the honest numbers. You will also see Marrakech balloon rides advertised online "from $29", and you will hear of flights costing well over €400. Both can be true at once, and the gap between them is exactly what this guide is about: what the hot air balloon Marrakech price actually covers, where the extra costs hide, and how to pay less without taking a risk.

1. How much does a hot air balloon in Marrakech cost in 2026?

The Marrakech hot air balloon cost depends mainly on one thing: how many people share your basket. Here is what our three flights cost per person, with approximate conversions. Exchange rates move daily, so treat the euro, dollar and pound figures as a guide and the dirham price as the real one.

Flight Basket Price per person (MAD) Approx. EUR Approx. USD Approx. GBP
Classic (shared) Shared, 16–24 passengers from 1,700 Dhs ~€170 ~$185 ~£145
Private Whole balloon for your group, up to 28 from 5,000 Dhs ~€500 ~$540 ~£430
VIP Private balloon, breakfast in the basket, personal concierge from 6,000 Dhs ~€600 ~$650 ~£520

Across the wider market, operators' own websites list around €165 for a standard shared flight, and travellers who ask in Morocco travel forums are usually quoted 1,400 to 1,800 Dhs. At least one other operator lists private flights at around €450 per person. So if a shared flight booked directly comes in somewhere between 1,400 and 1,800 MAD, you are paying a normal, fair price.

The figure that does not fit this pattern is the headline "from $29" price on some booking platforms. We explain where that number comes from below, and in more detail in our post on why Marrakech balloon rides show up for $29 on Viator.

2. Why do Marrakech balloon prices vary so much?

Two flights that look identical in a listing can differ by hundreds of dirhams. The main reasons:

If you want help weighing these factors operator by operator, read our guide on how to choose a hot air balloon company in Marrakech.

3. Shared, private or VIP: which flight is worth the price?

Classic Flight: from 1,700 Dhs per person

The Classic Flight, our classic hot air balloon ride in Marrakech, is the shared basket, typically with 16 to 24 passengers. You get the same sunrise, the same 45 to 60 minutes in the air and the same view of the High Atlas as everyone else on board. For most travellers, couples and solo visitors, this is the best value and the flight we recommend first.

Private Flight: from 5,000 Dhs per person

On a private hot air balloon flight in Marrakech the whole balloon is reserved for your group, up to 28 passengers, and nobody else is added to the basket. It suits proposals, anniversaries, family celebrations and anyone who would rather not share a sunrise with strangers.

VIP Flight: from 6,000 Dhs per person

The VIP hot air balloon with breakfast is a private balloon with one difference you will notice: breakfast is served in the basket, mid-flight, rather than on the ground after landing. You also have a personal concierge for the morning. It is the top of the range and priced accordingly.

Which is worth it? If the flight itself is what you are after, the Classic delivers it at the lowest cost. Pay for Private or VIP when privacy or the occasion matters more than the price per person.

4. What is included in the price, and what is not?

A low price only means something once you know what it covers. This is what every one of our flights includes:

What is not included:

The whole morning takes about four hours: pickup around 5:00, a 4x4 drive at 5:30, the briefing at 6:00 while the balloon inflates, lift-off at sunrise around 6:30, breakfast at 7:30 and drop-off back at your hotel at about 9:00. Pickup is a little earlier in summer and later in winter, and we send the exact time the evening before.

When you compare prices from different operators, check each of these items against what is in their listing. A cheaper ticket without transfers or breakfast can end up costing the same once you add them back.

5. Are there hidden extras: tips, photos, champagne?

There should be no surprises on the day, but a few things usually sit outside the ticket price, with us and with most operators, and it helps to know them in advance:

Ask any operator the same question before you pay: "Is there anything I will be asked to pay for on the morning itself?" A clear answer is a good sign.

6. Is it cheaper to book directly or on GetYourGuide or Viator?

Booking directly with us is typically 15 to 20% cheaper than the same flight on GetYourGuide, Viator or Civitatis. The reason is simple: booking platforms charge the operator a commission on every ticket, and that commission ends up in the price.

Booking direct brings a few other practical advantages:

What about the "$29" balloon rides?

Some platform listings show Marrakech balloon rides "from $29 to $35". That headline number is far below what operators typically charge on their own sites for a full sunrise flight with transfers, breakfast and insurance. We break down what usually sits behind it, and the questions to ask before you book, in why is a Marrakech balloon ride $29 on Viator.

7. What is the cheapest realistic way to fly without taking a risk?

If you want the lowest sensible hot air balloon ride Marrakech cost per person, this is what we would do:

  1. Choose a shared flight. The Classic basket is the biggest single saving. You see exactly the same sunrise as a private flight.
  2. Book directly with the operator. Skipping the platform commission typically saves 15 to 20%.
  3. Compare like with like. Make sure the price includes transfers, breakfast and insurance, so nothing is added later.
  4. Check the operator, not just the price. Ask whether they are authorised by the DAC, what licences the pilots hold and how often the balloons are inspected. A cheap ticket is no bargain if the safety basics are missing.
  5. Leave yourself a spare morning. Book early in your stay so a weather cancellation can be rebooked instead of refunded. That way you get the flight rather than a refund.

We fly all year, and October to April is the best season for clear air and snow on the Atlas. Our guide to the best time for a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech explains what each season looks like from the air.

8. How do the deposit and payment work?

You can book through the online form, by phone or on WhatsApp. To confirm your seats we take a deposit of €50 (500 MAD) per person. The balance is paid before the flight, either by bank transfer or in cash at the launch site.

That means you only commit €50 per person up front, and you know exactly what is left to pay on the day.

9. What happens to your money if the flight is cancelled?

Ballooning depends on the weather, and the decision always belongs to the pilot in command. We cancel if the wind is above 15 km/h, or if there is rain, fog, storms or any doubtful weather.

If that happens, we contact you as early as possible, often the evening before, and rebook you on another morning during your stay. If you cannot rebook, you get a full refund with no charges. You do not lose your deposit and there is no cancellation fee for a weather call.

10. Is the price worth it?

For most visitors, yes. For around 1,700 Dhs you get a morning that starts in a quiet Palmeraie before dawn, a 45 to 60 minute flight as the sun comes up over the Jbilet hills, a view south to the High Atlas (snow-capped in the cooler months) (Toubkal, at 4,167 metres, is visible on clear days), and a full Moroccan breakfast on landing. We have flown more than 5,000 flights with no incidents, and every balloon is inspected every six months and checked by the crew before each take-off.

If you are building your trip around it, our Marrakech itinerary with a balloon ride shows how to fit the flight into a few days in the city, and the ultimate guide to hot air ballooning in Marrakech covers everything else, from what to wear to who can fly.
